Happy Hour News

Happy Hour represents personal industry stories.  As we call on you and as you visit our sales counter, many experiences and happenings get told through out the day.  The really good ones get repeated at the end of the day, thus "Happy Hour".  The experienced (and sometimes not-so-experienced) water and sanitary sewer folks have some pretty good stories to tell.  We've all gained industry knowledge by listening to the people who have been on the construction site and witnessed what was happening.  "Our People" have some good stories to tell and we will be bringing those to you here on Happy Hour.  We want to invite you to share your interesting stories with us, too.

  >>   Much time, effort, and thought has been given to the building of the csspipe.com website.  I very much want to thank our webmaster, Mr. Scott Johnson, owner of Johnson's Signs, Beaver Dam, KY for his expertise in building a website that a normal lay person like myself can manage to spontaneously update.  We met Scott through Jimmy McStoots with G&L Sewer Rehab during a Friday afternoon HAPPY HOUR story session at Dundee.  Scott and Jimmy had played football together at Ohio Co. High School back in .....  well, we won't tell when.  Scott had finished doing the signage on G&L's equipment and conversation started about websites.  Scott helped me with redoing our website at Triple M (www.triplem.ws) so we could quickly upload pictures and redo text.  When I needed a start-from-scratch website in a matter of a few weeks, I certainly knew who to turn to.  Scott and I have a few interesting things in store for the website, so fo now, we hope you find it informative and easy to communicate with us.  Please give us any suggestions, we appeciate your visiting the site.   (KATHY WEMHOENER)

During 2005, G&L Sewer Rehab, Inc. sub-contracted the sanitary sewer rehab portion of the City of Cloverport, KY  - OBrien & Gere Engineers.  Part of G&L's responsibilities was to find and raise to grade any manholes that had been blacktopped over throughout the years.  There were well over 60 manholes that were found throughout the city..... and every manhole had been blacktopped over.  (Jimmy McStoots)

In June 2006, The National Weather Service, Doppler Center here in Paducah called regarding the need of an 18" diameter pipe four feet long.  Upon discussing exactly what the need was, it was discovered that the NWS was building a "Tornado Machine" and needed (more like) a box to sit the machine on top.  We suggested that they come by and look at our variety of water meter boxes and upon doing so, CSS and ADS donated a four foot tall, 18" diameter white corrugated water meter box to the cause.

Do you know how to terminate trace wire along PVC and polyethelene piping?  Well, apparently in the past there was no usual and customary way to do this so it's just been wrapped around whatever to end.  There is a proper way to terminate trace wire.  Mr. Bill Tanner of T-Squared, Inc. Brookport, IL (across the Ohio River from Paducah, KY) has written a paper entitled "The Art & Science of the Trace Wire".  Bill has also invented the TWT - Trace Wire Terminator which is a round plastic valve box donut with his patented trace wire termination points which are fully encapsulated to keep the wire from grounding.  This conversation has been discussed at many utilities and contractors offices.  CSS would be happy to forward Bill's paper to you along with the information on the TWT.  Bill Tanner is presently the Manager of West McCracken Water District in West Paducah, KY.
